A good part of my career has involved work supporting government contracts, predominantly military programs. Much of it was practical product and packaging engineering: understanding the requirement, developing the product, and working through the testing and approval process.
That experience included specialized military tool storage, molded products, and the details that connect a design to production and acceptance.
It reinforced a way of working: make requirements explicit, maintain clear documentation, and judge the product by the evidence.

I maintained electrical and electronic systems on fighter jets. That experience is part of the technical foundation I brought into mechanical engineering and manufacturing.
